Being at home for extended periods of time can leave you searching for things to do, so there's no better time to make sure your livelihood and home are secured and protected. Here are six important things you can do around the house to benefit your family and keep your insurance policies up to date.

1) Complete a Home Inventory Checklist to ensure your belongings are accounted for in the event of a fire or other disaster in your home. This helps to make sure you have the right insurance coverage, can make filing a claim easier, and helps you to put your life back together faster.

2) If you’ve been thinking about getting life insurance, try calculating your needs online to get an idea of how much coverage you may need. Here’s a free Life Insurance Needs calculator you can use.

3) Each year, it’s important to review your auto, home, and life insurance policies to make sure you have the right amount of coverage. Right now is the perfect time to think through this Insurance Annual Review Checklist and assess how your circumstances may have changed in the last year or two.

4) Make sure all smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and security alarms are working around your property and change the batteries if needed.

5) Spring is tornado season in Tennessee. Review tornado safety with your family and develop a safety plan in the event of a tornado in your area.

6) View and print our Yearly Home Maintenance Checklist and complete the tasks you are able to do around your home at this time, such as cleaning your garbage disposal, gutters, and drains.

7) Get outside by playing with your family in the yard, going for a jog, or taking your dog for a walk. With better health comes better rates on life insurance.
