When your well-being depends on unpredictable sources (like rain, soil, and the sun), it’s always good to have a safety net. And farmers have always known they can count on each other.

In 1948, Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Company was established to provide affordable property and casualty insurance for rural Tennesseans. Farming was a more dangerous occupation then, and many insurance companies were unwilling to insure farm structures.

So, the farmers of Tennessee, working through the Tennessee Farm Bureau, launched their own insurance company. It wasn’t long before their friends and neighbors wanted to take advantage of Farm Bureau’s insurance program. Since our humble beginnings with just 1,000 policies, we now insure more homes and automobiles than any other insurer in Tennessee.

Twenty-five years later, they added the Tennessee Farmers Life Insurance Company, giving people another reason to rest easy at night knowing their families would be taken care of in the event of illness or a catastrophic event. Today, Tennessee Farmers Life is the largest writer of individual life insurance in the state.

Through it all, the purpose has remained the same: making sure that the people in Tennessee and surrounding areas have someone they can count on. Someone in the community who cares and understands the value of having peace of mind, especially on the farm.

Today, our reach has grown to encompass those in cities, towns, and rural routes all across the state of Tennessee. But our values haven’t changed, and we always remember our roots.

We employ more than 900 people, with 54% having worked for Farm Bureau Insurance for 10+ years. We have more than 350 claims professionals in 16 claims centers across Tennessee who are dedicated to prompt and caring service for those who have sustained a loss. A Farm Bureau office is not hard to find — we have more than 200 offices in every county in the state and more than 500 insurance agents.
